Glossary for Lilienthal Illustration:
Illustration
The creation of a dynamic image or series of images which convey a specific concept to a targeted audience.
Graphic Design
Our ability to aesthetically format how images and text will be laid out in a project. Includes Poster, brochure, and logo design.
Animation
Our use of either 2D or 3D objects that are animated to move around in an environment. This uses a movie to illustrate an idea instead of a static image.
Interactive media
We provide your users a dynamic interaction with visuals by clicking or scrolling through content seen on a monitor.
Website
Our clear, simplistic, & innovative design of WebPages and navigation through a website to benefit a specific audience.
Consulting
Our time spent assessing visual communication problems, researching them and presenting our findings on realistic solutions to our clients.
Research & Development
Time spent researching and planning an illustration. This includes independent work as well as time with client and content experts. It includes gathering references, such as photographs, and organizing the concepts that fit into the illustration.
Design
Taking the research and references and making a visual plan for implementing the illustration. This includes the layout of image and text content for an illustration. A client may receive rough and comprehensive layout designs to proof during the project.
Media Package
A group or package of visual resources that can be used in conjunction with one another to create a stronger visual message. This might include branding materials or printed materials to accompany an animation.
Drawing
The smallest solitary image created as part of a project. A poster for example may contain many drawings.
Sketch
A preliminary drawing that contains the meat of the story. Usually does not include color just the concrete content of the illustration.
Concept Sketch
A rough preliminary sketch that get an idea or concept across. Usually more than one concept is presented to choose from.
Drafts
Intermediate versions from story boards or preliminary sketches to the final version.
Proof
An image that is prepared for the client to observe and review. There will be a final Proof for all projects, which is the print or production ready piece providing no changes are required.
Proofreading
Involves editing text or pictures to ensure accuracy of message and content.
Production
The process of creating the final visuals from sketch to print or media.
Final Version
The final proof that can be sent off for printing or distribution. Changes beyond this point will require additional charges.
Scanning
The scanning of art and references to be used digitally.
Printing
The process of producing printed work either in CMYK, 1-3 color PMS processing, or with spot color.
Packing
The packaging of all materials to be shipped and delivered to the client traditionally or electronically for final usage. Includes organization and delivery of final proofs, paperwork, fonts, output media and archiving of job.
Travel
Time spent doing long-distance travel to clients that are over 60 miles away. |
